Description:
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
is the number one cause of death for infants between one week and one year
of age. One of the frustrating obstacles for the Canadian Foundation
for the Study of Infant Deaths, the SIDS Foundation, is the obscurity
surrounding the magnitude of the problem. Crib Death, as it is also
called, claims up to one out of 1,000 babies during their sleep. The
cause, although relatively unclear, may stem from a malfunction in the
brainstem for the regulation of cardio-respiratory control. Major
funding for the foundation's programs comes from memorial donations
through funeral homes. The organization researches the cause and
provides emotional support for grieving families through its national
self-help chapters and affiliates.
The annual fundraising/awareness
campaign is launched each October and the foundation's emblem, the Baby's
Breath flower, is prominently displayed.

community of Canada. Please contact the above address for more

Canada, helping families to cope with the impact of childhood
cancer. The Childhood Cancer Foundation - Candlelighters Canada is a
national volunteer organization providing support, information and
enhancing the quality of life for children, teens and their families
living with the impact and affects of childhood cancer. Only
accidents kill more children in this country than cancer. Every year
in Canada over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer between the ages
of 1 and 14 and another 300 to 400 children aged 14 to 19. At any
time there are over 10,000 children in Canad living with cancer and its
affects. That means each day 3 to 5 families will hear the shocking
news "your child has cancer".
