Eulogies praise the deceased for
their contributions to friends and family, the community or their field of
endeavour. They generally recall what made them special, how and why we
should never forget who they were or what they stood for or why they had such a
positive impact on our lives.
When a loved one passes
away, we are so very often ill-prepared. Our emotions and our
thoughts may become confused. As you sit down and try to put pen to paper
writing a eulogy can appear to be a daunting task. We have put together a useful
guide to assist you in collecting your thoughts, gaining back your composure to
allow you to write from the heart. Life is so precious and unique that virtually
everyone touches us is some meaningful way. Sharing precious moments in the life
of your deceased loved one with friends, family, neighbours and co-workers can
help you find peace and solace in your time of grief.

Joan E.
Christ-West received her musical training at St. Michael’s Academy in Brandon,
Manitoba. An unusually gifted child of only twelve years of age, she played the
cathedral-styled Casavant pipe organ in St. Augustine’s Church in her home
town. While still in her early teens, she obtained her teaching degrees (A.T.C.L.
& L.T.C.L.) from Trinity College of Music, London, England.
Though
her entire life has been dedicated mainly to church music, she has also
performed as pianist and consultant for Latin Church Music in plays for the
Stratford Festival Theatre Company, Stratford, Ontario. A consumate pianist,
organist and keyboard artist, she has performed at several corporate sponsored
gala concerts, private concerts as well as public venues such as the Canadian
National Exhibition in Toronto, Ontario. The unbridled passion she had for music
is overwhelmingly evident in her ability to evoke deep, emotional response while
as if by magic, her deft fingers glide over ivory and ebony.

Joan
played every Sunday at mid-morning mass at Our
Lady of Fatima Church in Coquitlam where she performed old traditional hymns
and, occasionally, her own compositions. She has written several masses and
composed musical scores for prayers
and psalms performed by the choir and both of her children, Barbara and Mark,
their spouses and her five grand-children under the direction of her husband,
John R. West.
