Joan E. Christ-West received her musical training at St. Michael’s Academy in Brandon, Manitoba. An unusually gifted child of only twelve years of age, she played the cathedral-styled Casavant pipe organ in Ste. Augustine’s Church in her home town. While still in her early teens, she obtained her teaching degrees (A.T.C.L. & L.T.C.L.) from Trinity College of Music, London, England.

Though her entire life has been dedicated mainly to church music, she has also performed as pianist and consultant for Latin Church Music in plays for the Stratford Festival Theatre Company, Stratford, Ontario. A consumate pianist, organist and keyboard artist, she has performed at several corporate sponsored gala concerts, private concerts as well as public venues such as the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, Ontario. The unbridled passion she had for music is overwhelmingly evident in her ability to evoke deep, emotional response while as if by magic, her deft fingers glide over ivory and ebony.

Joan played every Sunday at mid-morning mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Coquitlam where she performed old traditional hymns and, occasionally, her own compositions. She has written several masses and composed  musical scores for prayers and psalms performed by the choir and both of her children, Barbara and Mark, their spouses and her five grand-children under the direction of her husband, John R. West.
